History & Information
The Croatian Pavilion is a proud participant of the Edmonton Heritage Festival since its inception. Since the beginning, we have had continuous support by our Croatian Community through the Nativity of Mary Parish as all our volunteers are proud to promote our culture through this festival. Normally, you would see smiling faces in the kitchen preparing your very loved and sought-after Croatian Donuts! This year, we will truly miss seeing the never-ending line up for the tastiest treat and, of course, the big smiles on your faces when receiving it. We truly appreciate all the support that our pavilion has received over the years, the smiles when being served food, and the applauses our dancers get after performing and showcasing our Croatian culture. We cannot wait to see you next year! Take care and stay safe!
Explanation of Video
The Edmonton Croatian Folkdance Ensemble of Edmonton, which is celebrating its 47th anniversary this year, is pleased to be apart of the festival since its establishment. Our folkdance ensemble has approximately 80 performers who range in age from 5 to 55, in four age groups. Our group has travelled all over North America, and in 2010 proudly represented Canadian-Croatians in our homeland of Croatia.
This video of our middle group’s performance was taken during the 42nd Annual Croatian Canadian Folklore Festival, which was held in Vancouver last year. Every year, a new city hosts the annual festival during May long weekend. This year, Domagoj Edmonton was very excited to host but, due to COVID-19, we had to postpone the festival until next year. This is the first time in the festival’s history that it had to be cancelled. We are looking forward to hosting the Western Croatian Canadian groups next year for the 43rd Annual Festival!
